Current Transformer Types

Different Current Transformer Types

In this blog we will go over the different types of Current Transformers available in the market. in a seperate blog which we will link to we will discuss the Burden or Losses which you need tobe aware of when installing Current Transformers (CT's)

Why so many CT Types?

People often wonder and get confised why there are so many different types, sizes and ratings for Current Transformers. The answer is simply that there are almost endless applications for current transformers. From Power Metering, Energy Monitoring, Power Quality Aanalysis, to Power Control and Safefty Systems, each application can have different accuracy, sizing, and other physical requirements.

Overview of CT Types in the market.

In this table we have listed the main applications we are involved with. This is by no means every applications and is intended to give you an idea of the different styles of CT's.

0.333V CT's and Rogowski Coils were intedned for US based Equipment, and in the past all Rogowski Coils were only availale in 0.333V. Nowadays 1 Amp, or 5 Amp Rogowski Coils are available, however in many cases the unit costs are prohibitive. For new installations we highly reccommend to use Large Split Cores CT's.

You can clik on the image of each range to open up the available range in our store. There you will find detailed specifications along with matching datasheets.

The majority of our CT's are ROHS, UL, and CE Approved. If in doubt feel free to ask our sales team.
