The LVR-31 replaces the older EMD 8330790 auxiliary generator constant voltage regulator. The VR-31 replaces the EMD VR-10-16 constant voltage regulator.
Enerpro’s 3-stage charging has proven to increase battery life and reduce no start events on locomotives that are repeatedly started and shut down. There are over 3,800 of the VR, DVR, and LVR variants.
3-stage charging is the industry standard method of charging lead acid storage batteries. All modern industrial chargers (fork lift, data center, etc.) use 3-stage charging. Enerpro introduced it to the locomotive market in 2010 and received a US Patent. All Progress Rail and Wabtec locomotives now come with 3-stage charging as a standard feature.
